What is Simplest Analytics?
Simplest Analytics is a privacy-first, cookieless web analytics platform. It gives you the metrics you need โ visitors, pageviews, sources, devices, countries, and more โ without tracking individual users, storing personal data, or requiring a cookie consent banner.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. You can sign up and start tracking immediately at no cost. The free tier includes up to 10,000 monthly pageviews on one site. No credit card is required, and there is no trial period โ it's permanently free at that usage level.
How long does it take to set up?
About two minutes. You create an account, add a site, and copy one script tag into your HTML. There is no SDK to install, no npm package to configure, and no build step. The script is a single async tag that works on any website or web app.
What data do you collect?
We collect the page path, referrer host, browser, operating system, screen size, language, country (derived from IP โ the IP itself is never stored), and any UTM parameters in the URL. We never store cookies, fingerprints, or any per-visitor identifier.
Does Simplest Analytics work on single-page apps (SPAs)?
Yes. The script automatically listens to the History API (pushState and popstate events) and records a pageview on every client-side navigation. For hash-based routing add data-hash="true" to the script tag. You can also call window.sa('pageview') manually if you need fine-grained control.
Do you have a live demo?
Yes โ visit the Live Demo page to see a real dashboard with anonymised data. Every chart, filter, and metric you'd see on your own site is shown there. No account needed.
Do I need a cookie banner with Simplest Analytics?
No. Simplest Analytics uses no cookies and stores no personal data. Under the GDPR (and ePrivacy Directive), a consent banner is only required when you store cookies or process personal data. Because we do neither, you don't need one โ and your legal team can confirm this directly with our Data Processing documentation.
Is Simplest Analytics GDPR compliant?
Yes. We are EU-based and EU-hosted. We do not process personal data as defined by the GDPR. Aggregate, anonymised statistics are not personal data. We also offer a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) for customers who want formal contractual coverage.
Do you honor Do-Not-Track (DNT) and Global Privacy Control (GPC)?
Yes, automatically. If a visitor has enabled DNT or GPC in their browser, our script detects it and skips tracking entirely for that visitor. No configuration required on your end.
Where is data stored?
All data is stored on servers located in the European Union. We do not transfer data to the United States or any third country. This simplifies your GDPR Article 46 transfer impact assessment โ there is none.
Can visitors opt out of tracking?
Yes. Visitors can install any standard browser ad-blocker (uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, etc.) which will block our script. We also respect DNT/GPC signals. If you want to give visitors a first-party opt-out button, you can call window.sa('disable') to stop tracking for that session.
Do you share data with third parties?
Never. We do not sell data, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose other than showing you your own site's analytics. Your data is yours. You can export or delete it at any time.
How does billing work?
Plans are billed monthly based on the number of pageviews (or custom events) your sites record. You choose a tier that matches your expected usage. If you exceed your limit in a given month we'll notify you and give you the option to upgrade โ we never cut off tracking mid-month.
Can I change or cancel my plan at any time?
Yes. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time from your Billing page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle. Downgrades are also immediate, prorated, and reflected in your next invoice.
Is there an annual billing option?
Yes. Choose annual billing at checkout to get two months free compared to monthly billing. You can switch from monthly to annual (or back) at any time from the Billing portal.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) and SEPA Direct Debit for EU customers. Payments are processed securely by Stripe. We never store card details ourselves.
Do you offer refunds?
We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on paid plans. If you're not satisfied for any reason, contact us within 30 days of your first payment and we'll issue a full refund โ no questions asked.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Your data is retained for 60 days after cancellation, giving you time to export everything. After that period it is permanently deleted. You can export all your data at any time from the dashboard as CSV or JSON.
How big is the tracking script?
The script is approximately 2 KB gzipped. It loads asynchronously with the async defer attributes, so it never blocks your page's rendering or affects your Core Web Vitals. It is also self-hosted on our CDN with 99.9% uptime SLA.
Does the script work if JavaScript is disabled?
By default, no โ like all JS-based analytics. If you need to track non-JS visitors, you can optionally use our pixel endpoint. Add a 1ร1 transparent image pointing to /pixel/{site-uuid}?path={encoded-path} for a lightweight server-side fallback.
How do you count unique visitors without cookies?
We count a "unique visitor" as a new session that began from a referrer navigation (i.e. the visitor arrived from an external link or direct entry). Return visits within the same session are not double-counted. This approach slightly undercounts compared to cookie-based tools but is fully privacy-safe and requires no consent.
Can I track multiple sites under one account?
Yes. You can add unlimited sites to your account (subject to your plan's total pageview limit). Each site has its own UUID, its own dashboard, and its own goals and funnels. Data is never mixed between sites.
Is there an API I can use to pull data into my own systems?
Yes. The REST API is available on the Team plan. Authenticate with a Bearer token and query aggregated stats, or export raw pageviews and events as CSV. See the API Reference section of the docs for full details.
How do I exclude my own visits from being counted?
Go to your site's Settings โ Exclusions and click "Exclude this browser". This sets a localStorage flag that tells the script to skip tracking on your device. You can also filter by IP address server-side, or use the data-sa-ignore attribute on links/buttons you don't want tracked.
How does Simplest Analytics compare to Google Analytics?
Google Analytics 4 is powerful but complex, cookie-dependent, requires consent banners under GDPR, and sends your visitors' data to Google's servers in the US. Simplest Analytics is cookieless, needs no consent banner, stores data in the EU, and takes two minutes to set up. You get the essential metrics without the privacy trade-off or the learning curve.
How does Simplest Analytics compare to Plausible?
Both tools are privacy-first and EU-hosted. Simplest Analytics is typically more affordable at higher pageview volumes. We focus on simplicity โ one clear dashboard โ while Plausible has more advanced filtering options. Try our live demo and decide which UI fits your workflow.
How does Simplest Analytics compare to Fathom?
Fathom is a strong privacy-friendly option based in Canada. Simplest Analytics is EU-based and EU-hosted, which matters for strict GDPR Article 46 requirements. Our pricing scales more linearly, and we offer a permanently free tier that Fathom does not.
Will my numbers match Google Analytics?
They will be close but not identical. Differences arise because: (1) ad-blockers block Google Analytics far more than ours, meaning we may capture more real visitors; (2) we count unique visitors differently (no cookies); (3) bots are filtered differently. In practice, most users find our numbers are within 5โ15% of GA4 for organic traffic.
Can I import my existing Google Analytics data?
Yes. You can import historical data from Google Analytics via the Import feature in your site settings. We support GA4 data exports via Google BigQuery. The import normalises the data into our schema so you have a continuous historical view.
Does Simplest Analytics support UTM parameters?
Yes, fully. We automatically capture utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, and utm_term from any URL. You'll see these broken down in the Sources section of your dashboard. No additional configuration is needed.
